Wedding of David & Sian Smith, Clifton, Bristol

 (Ben Russell)

The wedding of David and Sian Smith was only the second marriage I have photographed. Dave is a close friend of mine and we know each other from the crazy days back in Derby when I was a photography student. I was very honoured and privileged to have been ask to cover their big day, and what a great day it was too.

The ceremony took place at Clifton Cathedral in Bristol, a magnificent contemporary and modern Roman Catholic cathedral cathedral built from reinforced concrete. The contrast of cold stone work and light and airy space made for a fantastic setting. The large room enhanced the beautiful soft sound of the piano as its comforting tone uplifted an anxious but excited audience. Both bride and groom were radiant during a simple but elegant ceremony, one that I will never forget.

After the ceremony Dave and Sian ventured to Clifton suspension bridge for a photo moment, while the other guests took an open top double decker tour of sunny Bristol, which ended at the reception restaurant in the centre of the town.

Despite the windy conditions, Dave and Sian were exemplary newly wed models and both looked great posing for the camera.

We were picked up by bus and whisked away to the wedding breakfast venue where we toasted, dined and made merry. The food and company was truly excellent and I have no doubt that every guest thoroughly enjoyed the wedding of Dave and Sian Smith. Congratulations to you both!
